Doctor Who’s Tardis for a spin

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Imagine for one moment, you arrive at a car rental establishment and next to the usual array of cars, is Doctor Who’s Tardis! There with the key in the door… And a note addressed to you giving you the go-ahead to borrow it for 10 minutes (mighty as well be infinity as it is a time machine.) to go anywhere, anytime you wanted!

Well, what would you do? Where would you go?

Would I want to witness the assassination of Julius Caesar, see Brutus make the striking blow to save the Republic.

What about the Moon on 20 July 1969 to see that ‘one small step’.

Or far off into the future and see man’s first contact with an alien race?

Or maybe just to this morning to see where you left your keys?

Tardis

We all know that Doctor Who travels through space and time in a Tardis (5 points to the first person to say what it stands for) and us lesser beings have to make do with cars, buses and rail. If looking at the London underground service (metro, subway etc.) you can see why.

I cannot imagine a Time Lord putting up with a cramped carriage, where the space inside defies the laws of physics to be ’smaller’ inside than outside.

Also, except for the times such as when the doctor installed a randomiser to the Tardis, he knows generally-ish where it is going? Well to within 500 years or miles.. lol But with the London Underground the service changes destination without the knowledge of the customers or the drivers for that matter.

So the next time you are travelling and you hate it, afterwards go home and invent a Tardis… and pop it in the mail to me, my address is …
