Neil Gaiman invited to Doctor Who by Steven Moffatt

Friday, May 30th, 2008

As many of you will know that many of the brilliant episodes of the current Doctor Who series have been written by Steven Moffett. It has now been revealed in Wired that Neil Gaiman, Author of Neverwhere, has been asked to write for the series. What joy that would bring, it is brilliant to see a series that has been so well written inviting yet another true artist to the fold! Please Neil, say yes!

(I have forwarded on this Blogs link to Neil Gaiman’s website so that he can see the support that the fan base has for this.)

The Black Guardian, a possible Doctor Who villian (Partial Spoiler)

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

To date, in the Doctor Who with David Tennant, we have had a whole array of Doctor who ‘classic’ badies. The Daleks, gradually appearing until they reached an invasion force. The Cybermen started as ghosts and ended up as a force to be reckoned with.

In the rest of season 4 we are to see further Daleks, at as the rummer mills suggest – Davros, the creator of the Daleks.

But, one major enemy I think we should see again is, the Black Guadian. The Black Guadian was the evil power behind the story arch, The Key to Time with Tom Baker. He was the opposite to the White Guardian, the keeper of balance in the universe.

I would love to see a large sorry arch based around him. I think, that Robert Linsey, from BBC ‘My Family’ would be a good as the Black Guardian as for the modern doctor who, an energy will be needed otherwise he will feel stuffy and outdated.

So, who would you choose to play the Black Guardian?

Doctor Who Mid Season (4) Trailor review – Spoiler

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

It is a trailer you ask, how on Skaro can you write a review on a trailer. Well, easily when the trailer gives you so many clues to what is to come.

There is the obvious, the return of Rose, the further inclusion of Martha Jones and of course the return of the bady sofas where made for, the Daleks.

But, what I am interested in is, the half obscured Dalek in the darkness. Yes… edge of seat time, equal to the Master, yes, the creator of the Daleks. Davros!!

Davros returning would be amazing – this is only a theory that is spreading like wild fire but what a wild fair he would be. Pure evil, the purity of the Dalek race.

My only fear, well apart from the Dalek’s themselves is Davros being out of character, I want a truly cruel Davros, sacrifice anyone, thing for the perfecting of the Dalek race!

The trailor is here (UK only)

Doctor who is NOT on this week – agony

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

After a fine run of quality episodes the, complete nemesis of quality television has cause the postponement of the next exciting instalment. Yes Euro vision is back! For those of you lucky enough to not know what this, well it is a contest that pits a musical bands against each other representing different European nations. Dull.. well except the hilarious commentary from Terry Wogan!

So to fill the said void of Doctor Who this week, what are you going to do, watch Eurovision. I think I may pop to the pub for a few.. to drown my sorrows..

In fact that reminds me; there is a pub in Central London that shows Doctor who on a wide large screen every Saturday!!!

Doctor Who, Microsoft Windows Vista, Tardis edition..

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

I was wondering just now, as my own Microsoft Vista Ultimate edition grinded to a halt whether Doctor Who’s Tardis is running a Tardis version of Microsoft Vista?

I have noticed that the Tardis’s operating system is very comparable to Microsoft’s Vista.

We often see the Doctor having to do some serious tinkering to get the Tardis working. There is the, now famous, hammer!

On the plus side, Microsoft Vista is meant to handle a variety of languages and the Tardis has allowed the Doctor and his assistants to speak and hear other languages?

But does the Tardis bring up its own Blue screen of Death, and freeze. Well, it has crashes, and one quiet literal, into the space fairing version of the Titanic last Christmas! Does that count?

Let’s hope it is a lot more stable version than the one installed on my humble PC or this Doctor Who season could be rather uninteresting, as the Tardis is sent back to Tardis’ r’ us for repair for 4 weeks!

Let’s hope it is running Linux or it is an ‘iTardis’!

Doctor Who has a Tardis I have the tube (London Underground)

Tardis

We all know that Doctor Who travels through space and time in a Tardis (5 points to the first person to say what it stands for) and us lesser beings have to make do with cars, buses and rail. If looking at the London underground service (metro, subway etc.) you can see why.

I cannot imagine a Time Lord putting up with a cramped carriage, where the space inside defies the laws of physics to be ’smaller’ inside than outside.

Also, except for the times such as when the doctor installed a randomiser to the Tardis, he knows generally-ish where it is going? Well to within 500 years or miles.. lol But with the London Underground the service changes destination without the knowledge of the customers or the drivers for that matter.

So the next time you are travelling and you hate it, afterwards go home and invent a Tardis… and pop it in the mail to me, my address is …

Doctor Who confidential – Nemesis (The Unicorn and the Wasp) (Spoiler)

Doctor Who Confidential : Nemesis

For those of you who have not delved into the parallel universe that is Doctor Who confidential, it is an episode length making of that is aired after Doctor who on BBC3 in the UK. I am unsure whether is aired in the countries (may be some one can let me know by way of a comment).

The Wasp and the Unicorn is a particularly special episode as it is a Doctor Who murder mystery!

But this is no ordinary murder mystery, it is based around the very real disappearance of Agatha Christie in 1926, when she vanished for 10 days and later returned with no memory of what had transpired.

Such an episode has some unique challenges in comparison to other episodes, as the director Graeme Harper highlights one by explaining that having so many main characters each shoot had to have several takes in order to get enough close ups of everyone in order to not give the mystery of who the killer is away.

The car chase during the episode appears to be at break neck speed, but the 1926 vintage cars can only go at a maximum of 20 miles per hour and as David Tennant points out, when it hit a hill the engine did not want to know.

This is well worth watching..

Doctor Who The Unicorn And The Wasp Review

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

What was billed as a comical episode proved to be a well thought out and crafted piece of work. I would say it was a homage to the memory and works of Agatha Christie. In fact it has made me want to watch that brilliant film, murder on the orient express.

But, back to the episode. Some points that should be highlighted, the giant was ok and I think essentially a British reference to an established fear and hatred of wasps in the UK. Would it have been the same if it had been a giant kitten?

The character’s where very strong and the dialogue was equally good. The tongue in cheek innuendo was amusing and I liked the line, ‘there are no children in this house and there are not likely to be any!’.

This is a welcome addition to the series, but a little obvious at times.

I give this 7 Tardis’s.

Doctor who questions on Yahoo Answers

Hi all,

I have started to post Doctor Who related questions on Yahoo Answers , Check out what I have asked and give me some of those theories. Like why the Doctors Daughter did not change appearance when she regenerated?

Sontaran affair – a bit short!

Friday, May 16th, 2008

One thing I would like to make clear in this second post inaugural post of this blog is that I like all Doctor who – all of the Doctors.

What I like in the later incarnations is references to old ‘baddies’. The Sontarans that appeared in a two part episode of ‘modern’ David Tennant Doctor Who where a pleasant addition to thers such as the Dalek and the Cybermen. But what was a real treat was the fact there was not one or two but hundreds! (Well at least 20!)

As you may agree or not agree, the modern day Sontaran where lacking in just one thing… Hight!

In previous Doctor who story lines, such as ‘The Time Warrior’ the warriors of the Sontaran empire where at least 6ft tall or even more. These little fellas where about as high as your average granny. ( The next time you see your granny think about a warrior from space being that short — oh so scary! )

It was a good effort, in fact it was good that the Sontarans continued their destroy or die policy at the end instead of creeping around, as the doctor highlighted.

I would welcome the again..

I give the 7 Tardis!
