As many of you will know the latest instalment of David Tennant’s Doctor Who has been postponed until next weekend, for the abomination know as ‘Eurovision’. So in it’s place I am going to start a side line of recommendations to ‘classic’ Doctor Who, to begin with I am going to give you a run down of the brillant story, ‘The Time Warrior.
The Time Warrior stars Jon Pertwee as the Doctor, dressed in a Green velvet jacket and a fetching bow tie. This story line sees the first encounter with the race know as the Sontaran (Recently portrayed in the David Tennant two parter – The Sontaran Stratagem ) where by a fleet commander called ‘Linx’ has crashed in middle Ages England and is attempting to rebuilt his spaceship with the aid of a corrupt lord who is tempted by ‘advanced’ weaponry. In order to rebuilt his craft he is steeling equipment and people from a Unit base. The Doctor is sent to resent to investigate and he follows Linx back to the Norman castle where he is treated as a Wizard.
Other features of this episode are the introduction of a new assistant, Sarah Jane Smith, and some exciting sword play by John Pertwee. The special effects may appear dated but the story, dialogue and action makes this a classic.
