Doctor Who previous Doctor Jon Pertwee introduction (101)

Many current fans of Doctor Who may not be entirely aware of the length and sheer quality of the previous Doctor Who series.

One of my personal favourites is Jon Pertwee’s take on the ‘Third Doctor‘. For the majority of Jon Pertee’s time as the Doctor, the Doctor is stuck, marooned on earth by his fellow Timelords. They have stripped the knowledge that allows him to operate his Tardis away from him.

Although, he still has his own sidekicks, probably the most famous and liked of which is ‘Jo‘ who he first met in story arch ‘Terror of the Autons‘. Along with his assistant(s) he also has his own transport, rather ironically, the car is very similar to the one recently portrayed in ‘The Wasp and the Unicorn.’ Except it is sunset yellow and called ‘Bessie’.

And, let’s not forget the Brigadier whose disbelief in what the Doctor does or what his enemy’s do makes a comical element, especially with the comical ironic catch phrase, ‘Now look here Doctor!’.

John Pertwee was for me the definitive Dr Who. He was an humanist with an serious outlook. His battles with the master were awesome. The story arc of the Dr being trapped on Earth allowed a whole range of secondary characters became part of the Dr Who story.

You got the Brigadier in every episode. It was Dr Who heaven.
